Now I love cooking and baking, but what I’m really obsessed with is buying cooking-related items, appliances and such. Throw me into Williams-Sonoma, Sur La Table or any restaurant supply store and I’m like a kid in a candy store. I eagerly await my foodie catalogs every month so I can drool over the latest kitchen gadgets and gizmos…am I a nerd?
I was happy when I saw Dorie Greenspan’s Savory Corn and Pepper Muffins was chosen for this week’s Tuesdays with Dorie challenge, because it gave me an excuse to buy a muffin pan that I’ve had my eye on for a while–Williams-Sonoma’s Nonstick Goldtouch Crown Muffin Pan. Six giant muffins with those treasured muffin tops. And to top it off, Williams-Sonoma had a winter promotion, where if you bought $50 worth of stuff, you’d get $10 to spend on your next visit. I had bought $250 worth of stuff in the store, leaving me with a $50 credit…so the muffin pan was essentially free!
But I digress–back to Dorie’s corn muffins. I’ve always loved cornbread. I love the crumbly texture, the grittiness of the cornmeal, the slight sweetness. And even though I’d never had a savory cornbread before, Dorie’s Savory Corn and Pepper Muffins intrigued me. I do love spicy foods…how can you go wrong with chili powder, jalepeño and freshly ground black pepper?
Wow…these corn muffins were delicious. Moist, dense, with a nice kick to them. They were great dunked in a hot bowl of vegetarian chili, which I had made in a slow cooker while the muffins were baking. The chili recipe I used included lots of chili powder and freshly ground black pepper, which nicely mimicked the flavors in the corn muffins. I loved the heat of the muffins…although if I made them again, I’d toss in some extra chili powder and ground pepper for an even spicier bite.
Thanks, Rebecca, for this week’s yummy pick! You can get Dorie’s recipe for Savory Corn and Pepper Muffins at Rebecca’s blog, Ezra Pound Cake. And check out the other TWD members’s takes on Dorie’s corn muffins!

Lovely photos–your muffins and veggie chili (hooray) look scrumptious:) I just love Sur la Table–whenever I’m in Chicago I need to make a visit to the one over by Rush Street. Another TWD baker turned me on to Fancy Flours and I had to hide that catalog as it is too alluring! I say, embrace the nerdiness.

Thanks for your sweet post on my wall. My muffins were so good. We loved them… my husband asked me today where I ever found that recipe. He loved them.
I took some pictures but my card reader was broken… then our cat got really sick and we ended up having to put her to sleep. ;*( Hopefully back on track soon.
Love love love your blog.
