Arrrg! The first Tuesdays with Dorie recipe of the year—and chosen by Dorie herself, no less—and I have the most awful pictures ever! Booo. This recipe was hands down the most delicious TWD recipe I’ve made thus far, and I all I have to show for it are these terrible pictures. Eeek!
I made this tart for a New Year’s Eve get-together B and I went to. I whipped it up in record time, in the hopes that I’d still have some sunlight to play with for the pictures. Unfortunately, it was already an overcast day, so by the time my tart was done baking and cooling at 5 pm, the sun was long gone.
I absolutely loved the flavors and textures of this tart. The creamy almond-flavored filling paired with the sweet, juicy, fruity pear, made for an exquisitely rich and complex-on-your-tongue dessert. The presentation was lovely–there is something so beautiful about the fanned-out slices of pear suspended in thick cream. The crust was like a shortbread cookie–sandy, crumbly, just sweet enough.
This is one of those desserts that you think would be way too complicated and fussy to make from scratch. Quite the contrary—it was simple and easy…especially if you use the canned pears, as Dorie suggested. I did, and I was not disappointed.
Although there were plenty of desserts at the party we went to—boxed brownies and a store-bought tiramisu cake among them—this pear tart was quite popular, if I do say so myself. But I’m giving all credit to The Baking Diva–thanks Dorie! Hope my pictures don’t scare you off. :)

Your pears look lovely. I’m going to make it again and place the pears differently now that I know how! I see you made the next recipe for TWD! I’m making mine today. Thanks for the hint on adding more chili pepper and pepper.

Wintertime food blogging is so tricky! I always sigh when I get ready to post about a dinner food – darned indoor pix. But your tart looks like perfection itself, and it really was GOOD wasn’t it?
